new mural; wall 250 x 97cm;

1) original photo inspiring design
2) first draft of design

3) finished mural, (cropped image)

ARCO; international art fair in madrid

These represent some of the peices I particularly liked, before my camera ran out of battery;
and I have sinned, because I forgot to take down any names! but still;
1) The visual illusion presented by the pressence of the wire mesh over the sunset scene(?) is cleverly deployed and eminates a sensation of warmth.

2) I dont really understand the recent trend for these kind of lights in sculpture.....
3) this is a bad photograph, but the work depicts a town scape, made entirely from off cuts of jeans.
4) I have actually come accross this sculpture before on one of the other blogs I have been follwing, but it was a pleasure to see in person. it is beatifully carved and the incomplete jigsaw effect with the sections of wood is very interesting

I like this painting for its romantic view on such dreary topic, kind of reminds me of a grey day in london.

Im not sure if i really like this sculpture, but it seems like a playfull take on the forever more bulbous and rounded apperance of cars.

this is a really interesting installation; its a very powerfull piece, the frozen scene of destruction is very bizarre, and projects real presence. the piece has been very well and painstakingly correographed emphasinsing its presence.
a nice play on the original ophelia,

finished images of Processos Escutora class

finished piece for wood carving project;

The form of this sculpture is based on on of the paintings from a previous post.

reference for how I envision the surface of the Magpie...

I found this picture of a sculpture by David harbour, it caught my eye as it is vert similar at the top to the photographs i have been taking. i would very much like to create this effect for the surface of the magpie or another possibel piece, it is just highly polished steel, but you require diamond paste and alot of time for such a good finish.
I dont like the subject of form of the sculpture but i do like the combination of surface texture, i was considering oxidizing the surface of my tree, but i think ill  see how it looks without it first.

new pictures

I have found another good location in madrid where i was able to get these photographs. these are some of my favourite yet. With large uninterupted sufaces of glass these images have stronger colour and contrast. where previous pictures i had taken needed to be cropped to maintain momentary incomprehensibility, these photos are fine already, alowing me to get some good quality prints which i have done.
i really like the grid aesthetic in these imges they create a very artificial sensation.

Hotel Corinita

This is an interesting fund raising project that was happening in the center of madrid, the project was called save our beach. there was a wooden frame building clad completey in waste, presumably collected from the beach. the overall look was very interesting, and there was a bar inside and guest rooms (i think) rainsing money and awareness of the cause.

funny christmas display in Madrid

Im just including this video due to its amazing distaste and comical value. Its a large display put on by the Spanish department store El Corte Ingles, Its put on for childrens entertainment, but i wonder how much they spent on this when the country suffers 20% unemployment?
but still, made me laugh.

progress with steel and mirror tree

The images here show the tree half completed, I have about another 8 mirros to go on and loads more leaves. The aesthetic is starting to come together, I am pleased with how the leaves came out, there is a nice blue detail around all the leaves, which is a reaction to the plasma cutter I used to cut them out. I hope that the adition of the rest of the mirrors with fill it out more and that in the rigth light and position I hope to get some good images of it.
As the piece develops, I think I am growing less fond of it, maybe just due to spending too much time looking at it, but I am looking forward to completing it and comencing with a new project.

Magpie

I was thinking about the photographs I have been taking, with the large shiny and abstract surfaces, it was then i compared my compulsion to that of the Magpie with hsiny objects. I thought it would be interesting to create a shiny magpie looking into a puddle with its head slightly turned to insinuate confusion.
I was just playing here with some cans to see if i could translate the idea i had. the main problem i had was joining the can wihtout it being to delicate, solder doesnt bond so well with can, and the epoxy i had doesnt bond rapidly enough to hold the correct form. I think its an idea i might revisit and take a different approach with. even if completed the aluminium surface wouldnt have presented a surface as shiny as i would like.
